National Black Child Development Institute

The National Black Child Development Institute is a partner in the development and delivery of strengths-based, culturally relevant, evidence-based, and trauma-informed resources that respond to the unique strengths and needs of Black children around issues including early childhood education, health and wellness, literacy, and family engagement.

For more than 50 years, the National Black Child Development Institute (NBCDI) has been at the forefront of engaging leaders, policymakers, professionals, and parents around critical and timely issues that directly impact Black children and their families. NBCDI, its national affiliate network, and its members advocate for and inform policies to ensure standards, regulations, and resource allocations support equitable systems for Black children and families. 

State allies can call on NBCDI to:

Connect them with NBCDI state affiliates.

NBCDI is implementing a state affiliate model, and can facilitate the engagement of state affiliates with Alliance state allies where there's Alliance state allies where there’s overlap to include the unique strengths and needs of Black children and families to build equitable systems and policy agendas.

Help them address the critical need for more state-level advocates with a commitment to Black children and families.

With deep grassroots connections in Black communities, NBCDI can help Alliance state allies ensure the voice of community is centered and contributing to building agendas that build on strengths and meet the cultural needs of Black children and families.

Additional Alliance-funded support for state advocacy includes: 

  • Supporting the development of the Alliance’s racial equity learning opportunities. NBCDI is providing  expertise in both racial equity and family and community engagement in early childhood to inform the Alliance’s broader Allies for Antiracism initiative.
