National Black Child Development Institute

The National Black Child Development Institute (NBCDI) has been at the forefront of engaging leaders, policymakers, professionals, parents, and caregivers around critical and timely issues that directly impact Black children and families for nearly half a century. With the support of their National Affiliate Network in communities across the country, NBCDI is committed to improving and advancing the quality of life for Black children and families through education and advocacy.

Alliance-Funded Support for State Advocacy

NBCDI is piloting an innovative new model that engages its local grassroots members in statewide child advocacy. NBCDI is developing this state-versus-national affiliate model to enhance and bring more diversity to organizations and coalitions advocating for children and families.

NBCDI and its affiliate leaders are helping state advocates gain a deeper understanding of how programs and policies are impacting Black communities and working to ensure the voices of Black children and families are reflected in the policy advocacy process. The organization is piloting this approach with its strong affiliates in Denver and Atlanta and is connecting with Alliance for Early Success allies in Colorado and Georgia. The objective is more potent, effective, and equity-informed advocacy.

In keeping with its more traditional activities, NBCDI is providing technical assistance to Alliance allies in three states. Colorado, Washington, and Wisconsin have requested their support.
