Virginia Child Care Champions
2021
Virginia has elections every year, and in 2021 they elected a new governor and members of the House of Delegates. Through the Virginia Promise Partnership and a new 501(c)(4) organization, Virginia advocates invited all sitting members of the legislature and House candidates to become Child Care Champions. They created collateral to make it easy for Champions to share their support through social media.
In addition to providing social media graphics, sample posts, talking points, and a bank of other resources, advocates ran digital and full-page print ads in major newspapers urging elected officials and candidates to address child care.
Parents and providers also played an essential role, including submitting letters to the editor, meeting with legislators, and sharing their child care stories. (Read more about these efforts in this newsletter.)
