The Alliance for Early Success condemns the violence in our nation’s capital on January 6.
And as a national community of both Democrats and Republicans working for better policy for young children, we are also compelled to denounce the antidemocratic mission of this terrorism. We celebrate debate. We encourage demonstration. But we cannot abide violent intimidation, especially when its purpose is to stop voters’ will from becoming established law.
Further, we must name and continue to work to end the racism that is evident in both this crisis and its origins – and that endangers the well-being of children, families, and communities across this country.
Our hearts are with policymakers, their staffs, and the people that love them – both in Washington, DC, and in statehouses across the country. Their work is crucial to the health, safety, and well-being of our nation’s children and families, and we celebrate the bravery and resilience that they demonstrate as they serve us.
We stand by them — and everyone — striving for a more perfect union.
