True North Group

The True North Group helps organizations serving vulnerable populations increase their impact through targeted policy change and proactive communication strategies.

The True North Group provides strategic advice and project management to nonprofit, philanthropic, and government organizations. Its consulting projects focus on supporting advocacy coalitions in achieving improved health and well-being outcomes for infants and toddlers and school-age children, and its work for Alliance for Early Success allies centers on child welfare.

State allies can call on True North to:

Support their efforts to develop a deeper understanding of child welfare advocacy — both among their teams and in the broader state policy community.

True North can assist in developing resources, materials, webinars, workshops and other forums featuring key issues regarding the intersection of child welfare policy and advocacy and prevention services, early care and learning, health care and family support policies, including mental health, Part C services, and screening rates, among others.

On the Ground:

  • In Missouri, True North advised advocates on kinship care strategies and connected them to national experts who could provide testimony to the state legislature. The legislature ultimately passed a $500,000 investment in support of kinship care.
  • In Vermont, Maine and Virginia, True North dialogues with advocates about approaches to lifting up voices of lived experts to advance policy initiatives in child welfare. Advocates in these states bring deep expertise on learning from and partnering with parents and youth to improve child welfare systems. Hope facilitates information sharing and serves as a resource for what other states are doing in these areas.
  • True North provides South Carolina with expertise, research, state examples, and policy summaries as needed related to the implementation of the Family First Prevention Services Act, customized to the state context.

“True North has been incredibly helpful. They always follow-up on discussions with informational briefs or additional resources that are directly relevant to our work in South Carolina.”
