After multiple requests from state advocates, the Alliance team put out a request for resources related to the 2024 election cycle and state and national advocates responded to a round-up request to share voter guides, info sheets, candidate questions, etc. with the Alliance network.
When a baby or toddler is removed from their family due to alleged maltreatment or neglect, children are often placed in a child welfare system that has not developed policies and practices with the needs of infants and toddlers in mind. In Georgia, early childhood advocates have worked with Alliance responsive support providers to win a solution for this problem—the implementation of an evidence-based court team approach.
Virginia advocates have have turned the Child Care NEXT principles and support into a string of wins for children, including, in the 2024 session, an historic commitment by the governor and legislature that means $1.1 billion will be available for child care services for low to moderate income families over the next two years.
Early Childhood advocates in Alabama are celebrating the creation of a new child care tax credit. As part of a “Working for Alabama” bill package, House Bill 358 provides opportunities for employers, for-profit child care providers, and nonprofit child care providers to apply for funds. The Alabama legislature unanimously passed the bill and the governor signed it into law in May, 2024.
State allies in the Alliance for Early Success network recently gathered to discuss how they approach “community engagement” in their work. The group considered a range of questions as they shared their community engagement experiences and explored the nuances of authentic partnerships.
In partnership with the Alliance for Early Success, ZERO TO THREE (ZTT) launched a new opportunity for state advocates, an Early Intervention (EI) Advocacy Learning Collaborative. This introductory experience is for advocates who wish to become more familiar with EI and more active in this critical state policy area. By creating this space to deepen understanding of the Early Intervention system, advocates will get ideas, inspiration and knowledge from one another, leading to positive change in their states.
A few weeks ago, the Alliance network responded to a question from a peer in peer in Nebraska on regulations covering caring for one’s own children through CCDGB assistance programs. Advocates from across the country responded with the latest guidance.
TEAM for West Virginia Children, the West Virginia Association for Young Children and Child Care Aware of America have rolled out a new West Virginia child care dashboard — an interactive map illustrating the gap between child care supply and demand. The tool is already proving effective for communicating the issue to policymakers and broader community.
