From abortion bans to book bans, trans rights to parents’ rights, states are experiencing an increase in ideologically-driven “culture war” debates and bills in the past few years, many of which impact, or have the potential to impact, young children and their families. Every state context is unique, but engaging on these issues can sometimes feel like a no-win situation–stay out of these battles to preserve your political capital for your bread-and-butter issues or take them on but lose your influence at the legislature. How can we move beyond those binary options?
